Description

Shaver Lake “The Early Years” is a production of The Central Sierra Historical Society and Museum, a nonprofit California Corporation. This program is based on a slide program developed by Charlie Hull, a Fresno High School history teacher. He narrated his slide programs from 1948 through 1988 in the Dance Hall of Lakeshore Resort at Huntington Lake to the delight of many generations of visitors to the High Sierra. The slide shows continue at Lakeshore Resort with Charlie’s narration on audio tape. However, this is simply too good a collection of historic photographs to restrict to seasonal group showings so the Historical Society undertook the project of converting the slide programs to video tape. New video footage has been artfully incorporated into portions of the slide program to provide a visual perspective for the viewer. Enjoy this step into the past, but whenever possible attend one of the summer shows in the rustic atmosphere of Lakeshore Resort. This is the first in a series of programs covering the history of the Central Sierra Nevada. Some of the other videos include The San Joaquin and Eastern Railroad (SJ&E), The Building of the New Shaver Dam, The Florence Tunnel, The Southern California Edison Water Story, The Bomber That Crashed into Huntington Lake, The Mono Indians, plus many more.
