Take a course in good water and air; and in the eternal youth of Nature you may renew your own. Go quietly, alone; no harm will befall you.
To be a mountaineer one must be made of self-reliance, possess an uncompromising love of nature and embrace an unambiguous understanding that it is our responsibility to take care of the Earth. As John Muir walked the hills he demonstrated the qualities of a mountaineer and embraced an inalienable dedication to the studies of these mountains. It was of the latter that he wrote to his sister Sarah saying “The mountains are calling and I must go.”
